Outdoor Activities

Team development and team challenges

With both indoor and outdoor facilities and extensive grounds, Lindridge House is perfect for team development. A half-day of activities that are innovative, fun and challenging can make the ideal start to your stay at Lindridge – getting people working together right from the start.

Navigation

With many years’ experience, along with some of the most beautiful coast, countryside and moorland around, here at Lindridge we make navigation a lot of fun!  From making simple maps, to local treasure hunts, to spooky night walks right through to the most advanced navigation skills suitable for serious walkers and aspiring leaders, we can provide it all here.

"Exposure to well-managed risk helps children to learn important life skills including how to manage risks for themselves” – Lord Hunt, March 2006

It is impossible to stress highly enough the value of outdoor education in the development and well being of young people. At Lindridge House, we aim to make participants risk aware and actively involve them in the decisions that need to be made regarding the management of risks during the activity in which they are involved. This is an incredibly valuable, transferable life skill.

Through links with local providers, who give generous discounts to groups staying at Lindridge House, and through the expertise of our own staff we are able to provide a range of outdoor activities – either simply for fun, as a reward or to work towards specific goals. Each session is followed by a review which visiting staff are encouraged to attend to draw out key points, make cross curricular links and to ensure as full an understanding from the participants as possible.

Sailing

Whether on your own in a small dinghy or as part of a group in larger keelboats, there is no better thrill than learning to take control of a sailing boat. A fascinating, surprisingly accessible sport, which allows many people who wouldn’t normally consider themselves “sporty” to really begin to achieve.

Basic Expedition Leader’s Award

A nationally recognised award that trains and qualifies teachers, youth workers and other members of the community to lead groups in lowland areas, have responsibility for the care of others when outdoors including day journeys and to organise base and mobile camps.

The award is the minimum qualification required by many Local Authorities and Operating Authorities of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme to train and lead groups in the expedition section of the Bronze and Silver Awards.

The award also counts towards the service section of all three Awards in The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.

Rock Climbing and abseiling

An unforgettable, challenging and enjoyable experience. Climbing develops physical, mental and team-working skills amidst Devon’s local limestone crags, which provide a venue second to none in outstanding natural beauty.  Abseiling – often a “must do” outdoor activity for many people offers similar benefits as well as a very healthy dose of adrenaline and a real sense of achievement.
